The Rhein Academy, also known as the Sino-German Innovative Experimental Zone for Talent Training in Mechanical and Energy Engineering, was established in 2014 and has since trained over 200 elite talents in the field of mechanical engineering. As Germany holds a leading global position in the fields of mechanical engineering, manufacturing, and future intelligent technology, the academy has been committed to a high-standard talent training model that combines the German engineering education with the national engineering education professional certification standards. The academy has continued to deepen its exchanges and cooperation with Germany in academic, scientific research, and cultural fields.

With the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Ministry of Education, the Rhein Academy relies on the Sino-German Joint Research Center (Tongji University), the Sino-German Graduate School, and other Tongji University's Sino-German cooperation platforms to adopt a German-style mechanical foundation curriculum system with characteristics of Industry 4.0 and intelligent manufacturing. The academy emphasizes interdisciplinary study, cutting-edge technology, and international perspectives, and integrates the training systems for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students, aiming to cultivate international industry elites who can comprehend both China and Europe.

The academy offers:

4+2.5 year undergraduate and master's degree program (Sino-German dual master's degree)

4+5.5 year undergraduate and doctoral degree program (Sino-German dual doctoral degree)

The Sino-German master's program and the Sino-German doctoral program are not mandatory. Students can choose to work or continue their studies according to their personal preferences.

The academy boasts high-level faculty:

A part-time professor team consisting of five German Academy of Engineering (acatech) academicians and more than ten German elite comprehensive university professors.

A full-time faculty team led by the dean and composed of 14 outstanding teachers.

Both Chinese and German professors teach in the classroom, achieving comprehensive talent training throughout the process.

Graduate employment prospects:

The graduates of this major have a wide range of employment opportunities. The traditional manufacturing industry urgently needs transformation and upgrading, industries in various fields are developing smart robots and human-machine cooperation, and the intelligent construction and green building industry needs optimization. Therefore, the employment areas of graduates cover the artificial intelligence and intelligent robotics industry, the traditional manufacturing industries such as automobiles, military industry, and large aircraft, the entire industry applying human-machine interaction and intelligent innovation, and the construction and environmental protection equipment industry.

Additionally, according to the 2020 and 2021 data from Zhaopin.com, a leading online recruitment platform in China, the average starting salary for mechanical engineering graduates has ranked first for two consecutive years.

About half of the academy's graduates continue to pursue postgraduate studies at first-class universities in China such as Tongji University, while nearly one-third enter elite comprehensive universities in German-speaking regions, such as the Technical University of Munich, the Technical University of Berlin, the Technical University of Dresden, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, to pursue master's or doctoral degrees. The remaining graduates work in companies such as Sinopec, Netease, Tesla, Shell, and Shanda.

Admissions process:

This major is a second-level enrollment program.

New students can apply through the Tongji University Innovation Experimental Zone Registration Website: cxsyq.tongji.edu.cn, and select the Sino-German Innovative Experimental Zone for Talent Training in Mechanical and Energy Engineering (Rhein Academy).
