The School of Mechanical Engineering has over 170 teachers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 young scholars of the Thousand Talents Program, 1 recipient of the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program from the Ministry of Education, 1 participant in the Shanghai Education Commission's Dawn Program, 1 participant in the Shanghai Education Commission's Morning Light Program, 2 young science and technology stars of the Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Talents Nurturing Program, 4 participants in the Shanghai Pujiang Talent Program, and 1 participant in the Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Talent Sailing Program. There are also 49 professors and 44 associate professors, most of whom have doctoral degrees. The school has also hired many well-known professors, scholars, and experts from China and abroad as part-time consultants and honorary professors.
The School of Mechanical Engineering offers doctoral programs in the first-level disciplines of Mechanical Engineering and Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, as well as a post-doctoral research station in Mechanical Engineering and a post-doctoral research station in Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Engineering. It has certain disciplinary characteristics in areas such as intelligent manufacturing, intelligent construction, Industry 4.0, building energy conservation, distributed energy systems, energy utilization of urban solid waste, industrial waste heat utilization, and clean and efficient combustion technology. The school has established platforms for advanced technology in construction machinery, advanced manufacturing technology, building energy conservation and urban regional energy conservation, and low-carbon and efficient utilization of urban energy. It currently has a Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Construction Machinery and Equipment, a Shanghai Mechanical Experiment and Teaching Demonstration Center, and a Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Construction Robots. In the fourth round of disciplinary assessment by the Ministry of Education in 2016, the Mechanical Engineering program received an A- rating, while the Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics program received a B rating.
In recent years, the school has undertaken various research projects, including the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), the National Key R&D Program of China, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as projects funded by provincial and ministerial levels and enterprises, with an annual research funding of approximately 40-50 million yuan. The school publishes about 70-90 SCI papers, 70-100 EI papers, and 2-3 ESI papers, and is granted 70-90 patents annually.
